The main advantage of all such pumps is their independence from sockets and other power sources – so that the mattress can be pumped up even "far from civilization", for example, when going out into the countryside. In addition, mechanical devices are quite simple, inexpensive and not particularly sensitive to water; thanks to the latter, they can be used almost without restrictions both in mattresses for rest and in products for "water" purposes. The main disadvantage of this option is that the pumping procedure can be quite tedious. In addition, it is usually necessary to release air from the shell manually (unlike some electric pumps), and this procedure can also be quite lengthy and laborious.
