Such structural elements prevent deformations and bends in width; this is especially important if the width of the product is greater than the length or does not differ much from it (this occurs, in particular, among inflatable rafts).

In turn, in models for relaxation, transverse ribs are called a slightly different design option — namely, a set of recesses of a special shape, under which there are jumpers connecting the upper and lower parts of the mattress (however, we emphasize that they should not be confused with ribs in the shape of a glass — see .the corresponding item). Such jumpers work effectively in all directions — both transverse and longitudinal. Because of this, mattresses with transverse ribs are considered more advanced than those with longitudinal ribs: they are more reliable and durable, as well as distribute the load on the body more evenly and provide better comfort during prolonged use. The disadvantage of this design is the relatively high price.
