Boat motors with neutral gear

 

— in neutral gear, the engine runs without turning the propeller — idle. This mode is found mainly in gasoline engines: it is easier to remove traction by setting it “to neutral” than to turn off the engine completely, it is also more convenient to start the engine at idle, and for the operation of the generator system (see above), this mode is considered optimal. But the electric motor does not need a neutral gear — in such units, the start is carried out with one movement of the switch and takes less time than switching the speed.
