Spindel

— a working element in the form of a cylinder, intended primarily for internal surfaces of a round and curvilinear shape — holes, figured recesses, etc.; can also be used for similarly shaped ends. The machine for this purpose usually has a square working table, in the centre of which the spindle for the sleeve is located vertically; during rotation, the spindle also moves up and down for uniform processing and wear of the sleeve. By type (see the relevant paragraph), such machines are grinding; they usually do not use other work items.
