— also found the name “mechanical”. Collet pencils are pen-like pencils that consist of a body and separate leads. The lead is fixed inside with special collet-type clamps (hence the name); it is able to slide out and hide inward at the push of a button on the body. This design provides tangible benefits, because “collets” are reusable, and the only consumables are leads. At the same time, for a number of reasons, they are also spent more efficiently than in ordinary pencils. There are three main types of collet pencils. The first has a small (up to 1 mm) lead thickness, does not require sharpening, and is designed for fine lines and small volumes of work. The second is thicker, up to 6 mm, sharpening may be required here, however, such models cope with extensive shading no worse than traditional pencil designs. And the third, the largest, is designed for use with coloured crayons with a thickness of about 10 mm. If crayons are included in the package, in our catalogue such a model is not referred to as a “pencil”, but as a “set of crayons”.
