Kimono

— kimono is a suit consisting of a jacket, trousers, and a belt. A kimono is typical for those martial arts that practice grappling and throws. The dense fabric of the garment softens impacts, minimizing bruises, abrasions, and other injuries. There are many types and styles of kimono, with each variety indicating the athlete’s affiliation with the relevant martial arts federation; some varieties also indicate affiliation with a specific school. A traditional kimono jacket is wraparound and must be secured with a belt. There are also pullover jackets; in this case, the kimono is called a “dobok.”
