Panels or faces feature latches, gears, switches, zippers, laces, and "adult" household elements that are safe for children. A busy board is a flat board that can easily be hung on a wall or placed by the crib; it saves space, focuses attention on one plane, and is suitable for quiet activities. A busy cube is a 4–6 sided cube with "360° play": it offers more content, can be spun, rolled, or used by two people, but it takes up more space. When choosing, focus on ages 1–4, interests, and safety: smooth edges, hidden fasteners, no small parts, non-toxic coatings, and elements requiring moderate force. Suitable real-life scenarios include a wall-mounted busy board in the hallway for "10-minute morning" play, and a cube in the playroom for free play.
