The Makita DTM50Z renovator runs on eighteen-volt batteries. Thanks to its 18V batteries, it is on par with more traditional corded oscillating tools in terms of power and performance. Due to the very powerful motor, the manufacturer even equipped the renovator with a soft start function, which smooths out jerks at the moment the engine is turned on.

High performance and a very wide range of operating speeds (from 6 to 20K revolutions per minute) with smooth frequency control allow the renovator to be used for various tasks: cutting, sawing, scraping and grinding. However the accessories necessary for the listed types of work are not included in the kit. But there are so many of them that you can easily buy original Makita nozzles inexpensively anywhere in the world.

Feeling of solidity, good quality and reliability

Makita tools have always been of high quality and well built. But in this case, you have to pay for power and quality factor: a renovator with an installed battery weighs as much as 2 kg — this is more than average. Therefore, you need to pump up your biceps before buying or hold the tool with both hands to guide the saw blade exactly along the cut line or the half-moon nozzle — exactly along the seam between the tiles. However, the thoughtful shape of the body, comfortable handles and non-slip pads allow you to hold the renovator in several different ways, choosing the most convenient for a particular task. Therefore, even during prolonged work, you should not experience any particular tension or discomfort.

But in terms of comfort during the replacement of equipment, there are comments. Although many models of Makita renovators use a keyless accessory change system, DTM50Z owners are still required to keep an allen key on hand, which is necessary to secure replacement accessories to the spindle.

What to choose: “carcass” or “full minced meat”?

The battery for the renovator must be purchased separately. Batteries with a capacity of 1.3 Ah to 6 Ah are suitable for it. On a standard 3 Ah battery, the tool will run for an hour or more (the battery life depends on the load, the specifics of the operations performed, and whether the backlight is on or off). You yourself can figure out which battery is best for you: small, medium or large.
