A premium wired gaming headset from the Asus Strix gaming series renowned for its quality and functionality. Unlike cheaper headphones that provide virtual multi-channel audio, this headset guarantees true multi-channel audio. Each ear cup contains 5 separate dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets, creating a full surround sound standard DTS 7.1 Surround. The positions, sizes and characteristics of the speakers are chosen to provide the most authentic surround sound that takes the gamer right to the epicenter of the gaming world, and thanks to the presence of a special stereo mode, the Asus Strix 7.1 headset does an excellent job of playing music. It comes with a special USB audio station, which is a fine-tuning centre for a device with a built-in amplifier. Another feature of this device...is a high-tech active noise cancellation system that complements the good passive noise isolation. The headset features a bold signature LED-backlit design and a well-designed design that fits comfortably in the ear with large ear cups with oversized, super-soft 130mm hexagonal ear cushions. The clamping force is sufficient for a secure hold on the head, but does not cause discomfort even with prolonged use. In addition, the headphones can be folded for easy transportation.

We simply could not ignore the gaming mega headphones from one of the world's flagship electronics company Asus. Strix 7.1, although not new, is still a premium model, sharpened exclusively for gamers.

Spectacular design

The design completely repeats the spectacular, slightly aggressive design of the analogue Strix 2.0 model. Soft memory foam headband, large enveloping ear cushions, comfortable fit, 90º swivel earcups, illuminated earcups. This, however, is where the similarity ends.

Control panel and settings

Strix 7.1 is a multi-channel model with 5 speakers in each earpiece. That is, we are not talking about virtual software Surround sound, but quite real. All this arsenal is controlled by a large stationary remote control, which is essentially an external sound card with huge customization options. The nature of the sound and positioning can be adjusted to anything.

Some users note the periodic freezing of the remote control in the midst of a game or watching a movie and a complete loss of sound. You have to reboot the device. This situation is typical for earlier revisions of Strix 7.1. To get rid of the disease, you need to update the card firmware on the Asus website to the latest version.

Noise canceling microphone

The built-in microphone noise reduction system cuts off almost all unwanted sounds, providing quite tolerable voice recording. The microphone itself is removable and connects to headphones via a 3.5 mm jack. There is a button on the remote control to turn it off.

Connecting an external speaker

Also, in addition to headphones, you can connect a multi-channel speaker system to the remote control. An HDMI cable with a splitter for 4 3.5 mm connectors is included. The remote itself is powered by the computer's USB.

It is noteworthy that headphones cannot be connected to a regular 3.5 mm miniJack audio output. Since they have a non-removable cable, and at the opposite end it has an HDMI connector for connecting to the remote control.

Sound

Headphones are more tailored for games and watching movies, but if you wish, nothing prevents you from listening to music in them. To do this, it is better to switch the remote to stereo mode. But still Strix 7.1 strong point is in their Surround sound. Stereo sounds quiet and inexpressive, and listening to music in 7.1 introduces an excessive coloring that distorts the real sound of the phonogram.

Asus Strix 7.1 is a bright and powerful representative of a new generation of gaming headphones, for which you will have to pay about 200 USD. Lot? The presence of an external sound card, real 7.1 and the popularity of the model say no.

Additional features headphones Asus Strix 7.1:
  • Level control for each channel
  • Game preset profiles: FPS (steps), FPS (shots), Action/RPG, Racing
  • Adapter from HDMI to mini-Jack (3.5 mm)
