Heat sink up to 150W. Noise level less than 27 dB. Low height. Does not interfere with RAM modules. Compatible with all mainstream processor sockets.

The processor cooler is a tower type with an excellent balance between price, thermal performance, and noise level. Like most of be quiet!'s products, this model operates very quietly (ranging from 19 to 27 dB) and can be considered a silent CPU cooler. The model is part of the Pure Rock family of processor coolers, which outperforms the budget Shadow Rock coolers in efficiency but is less impressive compared to the superb Dark Rock towers.

Thanks go to the second-generation Pure Wings cooler with a rifle bearing and PMW speed regulation. The cooler sits beside the massive aluminum heatsink with increased density fins, penetrated by 4 metal heat pipes that contact directly with the CPU base. The Be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black features a decent thermal power dissipation (up to 150 W) and a significant weight (575 g).

Its performance is designed for cooling high-performance processors like the Inte Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7 in auto or manual overclocking mode. The included mounting kit ensures compatibility with most Intel and AMD processors released between 2005 and 2022. A distinctive feature of this model is its carbon black color scheme covering the entire body, including the fan, radiator, and heat pipes. Otherwise, this model mirrors the characteristics of the original Pure Rock 2 cooler.

Model overview based on user reviews
The be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black is a highly regarded CPU cooler known for its quiet operation and efficient cooling. It features a compact design that fits most cases and is compatible with a wide range of modern CPU sockets. Users appreciate its easy installation process and the pre-applied thermal paste, although some wish for a spare tube. While the cooler is rated for up to 150W TDP, several users suggest it performs best with CPUs up to 130W, making it ideal for mid-range processors like the i3, i5, or Ryzen 5. The cooler's beautiful matte black finish is a visual highlight, especially in builds with a glass side panel. Despite its strengths, some users note the absence of brackets for a second fan and the need for careful fan mounting. Overall, it is a high-quality product with a few minor drawbacks, offering excellent value for those seeking a quiet and aesthetically pleasing cooling solution.

be quiet! Pure Rock 2 was, and still is, very impressive, and the Black version is even better! Fantastic cooling from one of the top manufacturers. If you're looking for quiet and efficient cooling, be quiet! is a great choice.

Although it states that it is designed for 150W, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. If you want to dissipate 150W, you'll need a heatsink the size of the AK500 from DeepCool, which is several times larger than this one. I know because I've handled both of them. But a processor up to 100W, I'd say an i3 or i5, entry-level or Ryzen 5, maybe 7.

The cooler attachment is quite simple, place the backplate behind, pre-setting the screws into the holes of the corresponding socket, place two brackets on the motherboard side, attach the cooler, secure the "rocker" of the tower with screws to the brackets, attach the fan, and connect the 4-pin. That's it, you've installed the cooler.

The thermal paste is already applied to the base of the tower. Which is not ideal, in my opinion. The thing is be quiet! has pretty good thermal paste, and it would be nice if there was a tube for a few applications.

In the case, the tower looks great, especially if you're assembling a dark-themed set of components. Through a glass side panel, it will look even better.

The fan is extremely quiet, spinning at around 300RPM in idle and about 900 under load. It's still very quiet because at those speeds, it barely makes a sound!
A very cool, efficient, and quiet cooler from a top brand.
Mounting kit for modern platforms
Quiet fan
Compact size allows it to fit in most cases
There are no brackets for mounting a second fan. A tube of thermal paste is missing, instead of the pre-applied one on the base. It would be better to have a spare.

A high-quality product, there's nothing to complain about.

be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black is a mid-sized single tower CPU cooler compatible with all current CPU platforms: AMD AM4, AM3+, Intel LGA1200, 1151, 1150, 1155, 2066 and 2011-v3. The only exception is the highly specialized AMD Treadripper TR4 processors, which require a cooler with a larger sole area. The claimed power dissipation of Pure Rock 2 Black is 150 W, which is enough even for moderate (not extreme) overclocking of the processor.

Copper and aluminium

Pure Rock 2 Black consists of an array of aluminium fins and four copper heat pipes — all painted in a single black colour. The tubes are in direct contact with the processor, while the sole of the cooler is polished to a mirror finish. Thermal paste was immediately applied to the sole, a reusable tube, alas, was not put in the box. The cooler together with the fan weighs less than 600 grams, so you don't have to worry about the bending of the motherboard.

Quieter than water, lower than grass

Complete fan — proprietary be quiet! Pure Wings 2 120mm PWM threaded ball bearing (at least 80k hours). Its rotation speed varies from 300 to 1500 rpm. At the initial speed, the noise is generally indistinguishable by ear and even at the maximum it is quiet 27 dB. The kit comes with a second pair of steel brackets for installing a second of the same fan.

Asymmetrical shape

The array of fins in Pure Rock 2 Black is deliberately made asymmetrical so that the cooler certainly does not interfere with high-radiator RAM modules. As a result, be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black is a relatively compact (only 15.5 cm high), but surprisingly highly efficient (150 W heat dissipation at up to 27 dB noise level) CPU cooler. He also has a more affordable fellow — unpainted be quiet! Pure Rock 2, which is suitable for PC builds in a case without a transparent side window.
