Top quality and reliable protection
Photographers and camera operators love external storage from LaCie. They are stylish, high-quality, reliable and instantly picked up by a working MacBook. The only problem was transportation. Many people needed a reliable hard drive that they could throw in a backpack and take with them to filming, without worrying that at work someone would accidentally kick the backpack, the HDD would fall out of their pocket, or some other misfortune would happen that would damage the recorded data. And in general, it’s a pity to flip such an expensive thing through negligence. The guys from LaCie showed that they know how to listen to their customers and released a new line of secure HDDs and SSDs called Rugged.
Not afraid of falls from the second floor
On the official page there is a rather loud statement that LaCie Rugged “can be placed under the wheels of a car, dropped from a two-meter height, and then left to get wet in the rain for a while, after which it will find its way home and return to the pocket of the backpack. The last one is a joke, but the rest is not. There are videos on YouTube with drop tests in which a hard drive is thrown from the second or even third floor (and this is by no means two meters high), ridden on a sports motorcycle and watered with a garden hose, after which it connects to a smartphone as if nothing had happened or laptop and shows that all data is in order. Considering that LaCie does not boast any military certifications, and the drive itself with a rubber bumper does not look that impressive, this is a really cool result.
Integration with the Apple ecosystem
Otherwise, this is a completely ordinary high-level HDD, which produces the maximum speeds available for this format (about 130 MB/s for reading and writing) and, like many other LaCie products, is designed to work with Apple equipment: USB C connection, support Thunderbolt and easy integration with Apple Time Machine for system backups. However, no one forbids using it with other OSes; you just have to reformat it and buy another cable if your computer or laptop does not have a USB C port. Although, this is now becoming less and less common. Another question is that the price is too high and for working with Windows it would be more advisable to take another protected HDD without being tied to Apple technology.
