The flagship of the G series in the eighth generation under the sign of the South Korean brand LG, at first glance, does not differ significantly from its predecessor in the face of the LG G7 Thinq. But if you dig deeper, a technological breakthrough becomes visible to the naked eye.
Sound through the screen
The first major innovation is that the smartphone got rid of the conversational speaker. An OLED display is used directly as a membrane for sound reproduction. This technology, called Crystal Sound, has been tested on board LG TVs more than once. Also, the screen of the gadget is characterized by a resolution of 3120x1440 pixels with a 6.1-inch diagonal and support for displaying images in a high dynamic range (HDR10), which allows you to convey more details at the boundaries of high-contrast transitions from light to dark and vice versa.
Progress crept up unnoticed
In the “bang”, which bit off the upper part of the display, in addition to the front module of the 8 MP camera, there was a place for a system of 3D ToF sensors. On their shoulders is the mission of recognizing gestures with the Air Motion contactless control active, they are also used to unlock the smartphone by the pattern of veins on the palm. In addition, the device owner is authenticated by face and fingerprint (the fingerprint scanner is placed on the rear panel). The device takes pictures with a triple set of rear cameras: 12 MP leading sensor with f / 1.5 aperture optics, 16 MP wide-angle and 12 MP telephoto (the latter is not available in all versions of the smartphone).
Full charge
“At the helm” of the internal “hardware” of the LG G8 Thinq is the top-end Snapdragon 855 chip, coupled with performant Adreno 640 graphics and 6/128 GB of memory “in the base”. The hardware part of the gadget is engaged in turning everything and everything without the slightest lags and slowdowns, including with prolonged gaming. Audiophiles will certainly appreciate the model's 32-bit DAC equipment, and all other users will come in handy for fast and wireless battery charging technologies along with IP68 water protection. The smartphone was announced as part of the MWC-2019 along with another flagship product of the South Korean development — LG V50 Thinq. In terms of hardware, the devices are almost identical, and the V50 model's "chip" is the transformation into a "clamshell" using the bundled Dual Screen case with an additional 6.2-inch OLED screen (2160x1080 pixels).
