I was choosing from many "serious" manufacturers for probably more than three months. I went to stores, held in my hands, felt, turned on, comparing all the "pros and cons", read reviews and studied forums, and all my requirements for orbital sanders converged on METABO. Solid build, good set, low price among analogs, and a three-year manufacturer's warranty. I got this "device" for home work, it's quite a fast machine, and it's more than enough for me. Good ergonomics and design, fits comfortably in your hand (you can work with both your right and left hands (I tried it myself)) and you can turn the machine on and off with one finger. The combined sandpaper fastening system has also proven itself to be excellent. Availability of a case. It is inconvenient to place sanding sheets under the clamp from the dust collector side (but it probably requires some practice). The power cord is not in rubber insulation and seemed a bit short to me, which could lead to its quick deterioration... There is no option to connect to a vacuum cleaner. It is a bit noisy... Even though there are anti-vibration pads on the machine's handle, vibration is still felt, and the hand gets somewhat tired if working "in the air". There's space in the case only for the machine and a little bit of consumables (sandpaper), nothing else can be put in... delicacy itself
The Metabo FSR 200 Intec grinder is a rather specific and “niche” tool. It is designed for delicate finishing and finishing operations, and is not suitable for rough peeling at all. Due to the small oscillation amplitude (1.4 mm), when using abrasives larger than P80, it becomes practically useless. But when working with fine-grained skins, the grinder opens up completely, since 26K vibrations per minute allow you to bring wooden surfaces to a perfectly smooth state.
Lightweight, compact and versatile
The working surface of the sole is small (114x102 mm). But the compact size of the machine allows you to get to the most hard-to-reach places (although for grinding in corners it is better to use the Metabo FMS 200 Intec 600065500 grinder, similar in design and characteristics, with an “ironing” sole). Due to its low weight, it is very convenient to work with one hand (and with any hand, because the device is equally suitable for right-handed and left-handed people) or above head level. By the way, the cable length (2.8 m) is enough to reach the ceiling.
The design of the sole allows the use of two types of consumables: branded Hook-and-loop sanding sheets and any other sandpaper of a suitable size. Sheets without Hook-and-loop are simply and quickly clamped using special fasteners. The ingenious filter container retains dust well. You can connect a vacuum cleaner instead of a dust collector, but for this you need to buy an adapter adapter, which is not included in the kit.
The grinder for tasks that require precision, not power
The cost of the Metabo FSR 200 Intec grinder is frankly low (by the standards of the Metabo tool). Plus, the device comes with a case, and you can save an extra $20 because you don't have to buy a separate tool box. The machine will not let you down if you use it for its intended purpose — for finishing small surfaces. But if you plan to sand the floors and give the tool heavy loads, you will be disappointed. For such tasks, it is better to take a device more powerful and with a larger sole. Fortunately, Metabo has orbital sanders for any task.
