One of the affordable models of entry-level gaming graphics cards in 2019 based on the TU117 GPU with Nvidia Turing microarchitecture. The manufacturer is positioning itself as a product of the basic price category, intended for a wide range of users who want to purchase an affordable gaming video adapter that can provide a comfortable frame rate in FullHD resolution. This model differs from the video adapters of the previous generation GeForce GTX 1050/1050 Ti with an improved architecture, an increased number of functional blocks and increased GPU / memory clock frequencies, which ultimately provides a performance increase of 30-60%. Among the advantages of the MSI GeForce GTX 1650 GAMING X 4G graphics card, we should note the presence of factory overclocked GPU profiles and the use of a...quiet 7th generation MSI Twin Frozr dual-slot cooling system based on an aluminium heatsink with a heat pipe and two optimized Torx Fan 3.0 dispersion fans. In addition, low power consumption (up to 75 W) and good compatibility with low-cost power supplies should be mentioned. Progressive architectural solutions and high-frequency GDDR5 memory guarantee comfortable gaming in popular game projects of 2015-2020 in FullHD resolution at high or maximum graphics settings. DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b interface ports support 4K/8K monitors.

The best option among GTX 1650

The MSI GTX 1650 GAMING X 4G is the top variant of the 1650 chip in MSI's Gaming lineup. Compared to standard revisions, it has a pumped-up level of technical performance, better cooling and, accordingly, better overclocking potential.

Increased frequencies

The card is based on the TU117 GPU based on the Turing architecture (manufactured using a 12nm process) and has 4GB of video memory. But if the standard versions have operating frequencies of 1665 MHz, then here we have frequencies of 1860 MHz overclocked out of the box. And this is already a direct entry into the territory of the older brothers GeForce 1660 and 1660 Ti.

Efficient cooling system

For cooling, a simplified version of the Twin Frozr 7 cooler is used with a rather large radiator made of thin plates and a thick heat pipe. All this looks very serious against the background of how the low-cost GeForce GTX 1650 manages with a simple one-piece heatsink.

Serious overclocking potential

Such a cooling system allows you to add boost to already overclocked frequencies and get stable operation in the region of 1935 – 1950 MHz. In tests, the peak value was 2145 MHz, but this is already a transition to the risk zone, and in everyday work in this mode, all juices will be squeezed out of the card. But the number itself is great. Even better, the fans remain quiet and efficient, keeping the graphics card at temperatures between 60 and 65°C.

Modest power consumption

Based on the initial performance of the base GeForce GTX 1650, the overclocked Gaming gets an additional 15-20% performance. Considering that the overclocking potential of many NVIDIA video cards usually does not exceed 10%, the MSI GTX 1650 GAMING X 4G can definitely be recommended for purchase. Plus, the card turned out to be modest in terms of power consumption, MSI recommends using a 300W power supply. Three or four years ago, such energy consumption would have seemed fantastic.
