Video reviews

A miniature flash from the Japanese company Nissin has dimensions of only 8.5 cm in height and weighs a little more than 200 g. But despite its modest dimensions, the model is equipped with a full range of functions that a photographer may need when shooting.

Assembly

The body of the flash is made of high-strength matte plastic, and all the moving parts in its design are metal (hot shoe mount, head swivel mechanism and compartment door mount for four AA batteries). There are several modifications of the model for the most common systems (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji and Micro 4/3 format cameras — Panasonic and Olympus).

Guide number

In the number 40 from the model name, the leading number of the flash is encrypted, i.e. the distance in metres at which it will be possible to normally illuminate the scene at the maximum zoom position and ISO 100. By the way, the flash automatically adjusts to zoom changes in the range of 24-105 mm. And if it is used in tandem with non-autofocus optics, then the user has the right to manually set the focal length between 24/50/80/105 mm. Due to the lack of a display, he will only have to focus on the indicator — each of the indicated values \u200b\u200bcorresponds to its own colour, a hint about which is hidden under a retractable light reflector.

Swivel head

The flash head rotates 180° to each side in the horizontal plane and can tilt 90° vertically, covering all possible options for the direction of the light flux in the upper half-space. Of the controls on the body of the Nissin i40, there are only two analogue wheels: a smaller switch is responsible for selecting the mode, and a larger wheel allows you to set the power level when shooting in manual mode (from 1 full "puff" to 1/256) or compensate for the exposure when shooting in TTL mode (±2 EV in half steps).

A number of advantages

On the front of the flash, there is a built-in video light source with 9 power levels (light colour temperature 5600K). It should also be noted that the model is fully supported in wireless mode (3 frequency channels A, B, C are available). Against the background of all the advantages, the minor flaws of the Nissin i40 are practically invisible. These include perhaps the lack of indication of the remaining battery charge and the erasure of designations from the mode dial over time. Otherwise, the compact flash deserves only flattering words, which is confirmed by numerous reviews from satisfied owners of the model.
