High-quality and even smoother picture

Debuting in sales in 2022, the Odyssey gaming monitor is a 32-inch Quad HD model that replaced the G5 32. Here, like its predecessor, it has a heavily curved screen (1000R curvature radius) and an 8-bit VA matrix, and the main improvement was a higher refresh rate - 165 Hz against the background of 144 Hz.

The Samsung Odyssey G55A 32 provides a contrast (2500:1 ratio) and moderately bright (300 cd/m²) image with a decent color gamut. Support for HDR10 is declared, but it is rather formal here - for a noticeable difference with SDR content, the brightness is still not enough. But flattering words deserve color accuracy: factory calibration is done "in good faith", and therefore additional settings are not required at all.

Game set

Game connoisseurs are waiting for a good smoothness of the video sequence in dynamic scenes, with which not only a nimble matrix, but also AMD FreeSync Premium technology should help. Additional gaming options are represented by the Black Equalizer function, which makes dark areas of the frame more visible in games.

The 165 Hz mode is available when transmitting a video signal via DisplayPort v 1.4, but via HDMI it is limited to 144 Hz. In addition, the claimed fast response (1 ms MPRT) is not so impressive in practice. According to Rtings tests, from gray to gray it is above 12 ms, so blurring of the picture can be noticeable in the most dynamic shooters. But in general, the performance in games (and not only) is at a high level, which is partly offset by low input lags (less than 5 ms at the maximum refresh rate).

The stand of the model is not very ergonomic (only the slope changes), but if this is not critical for you, then the Samsung Odyssey G55A 32 definitely deserves attention and has the right to claim the status of a balanced gaming monitor on a large diagonal.
