In 2020, Sequential announced the release of a new version of the hybrid digital-analogue synthesizer Pro 3. Like its predecessors, this analogue-digital monster fully justifies its name Pro. This is an extremely serious 37-key synthesizer with an advanced hybrid sound engine, a full-fledged modulation matrix and extremely meticulous attention to detail. It sounds great, is built like a Dutch bulldozer and impresses with its attention to detail. After all, a professional tool must also be reliable.

The Sequential Pro 3 features 37 semi-weighted Fatar keys, classic modulation and pitch wheels, and a small Yamaha CS-80-inspired touchpad. The synthesizer can be synchronized with external MIDI devices and CV compatible equipment (there are 4 inputs for connecting eurorec modules). For non-keyboardists, there is a rather powerful 16-track sequencer and arpeggiator on board, which not only memorize the selected notes, but also support step automation.
2 analogue oscillators and a hybrid wavetable engine
The sound engine is based on 2 analogue and one digital wavetable oscillators, which, according to the manufacturer's idea, provide an perfect timbre balance — analogue oscillators sound powerful and fat, and the digital format gives the sound a certain causticity. Then the resulting timbre is sent to the multifilter with three different sound styles (ladder, OB-6, Prophet-6). The signal can then be made more interesting with modulation (3 LFOs, 4 ADSRs + a 32-slot mod matrix) and ennobled with on-board effects (there's reverb, delay, chorus, and a bunch more).

As befits the brainchild of Dave Smith, the Sequential Pro 3 is built 6 out of 5 and ready for any tour, and the traditional tilted panel allows you to lift the top of the synthesizer above the keyboard for better control. Well, the panels with walnut trim look great, why be modest. With this approach, it's no surprise that the Pro 3 has garnered a stack of medals and awards from Computer Music, Sound On Sound, and other industry media, as well as making it onto most lists of the best music hardware of 2020.
