Smart features in Sony's 55-inch BRAVIA lineup are based on the Android TV platform. The trend towards its active implementation can be traced in the products of all major players in the LCD TV market.

Interaction

The TV version of the Android OS opens up great features in terms of accessing content and controlling the TV. In addition to the traditional pre-installed YouTube and Netflix services, you can install any compatible programme or game from the Google Play Market app store. Navigating the menu is also not difficult, because. its interface is simple and logical. To further simplify the task in user interaction with the shell, the voice search function, which works surprisingly quickly and correctly, will help.

Full immersion

When viewers are in the centre of the screen, it seems to draw them into what is happening, which is facilitated by the curved shape of the display. When deviating from the central axis, the picture slightly loses its attractiveness and distortions appear on it, which, however, is characteristic of all curved panels due to the peculiarities of their structure. Support for HDR technology gives the image a realistic effect — when broadcasting the corresponding content, the TV screen produces a lively and juicy picture with an abundance of shades and tones that are closest to those that the human eye sees.

"Improvers"

For various viewing conditions in the model settings, there are 13 preset image output presets, and for true perfectionists, access to manual adjustment of parameters is open. Another "enhancer" is High Action Motion Picture Smoothing, which provides smoother playback of sports and action scenes in movies.

Rich arsenal

On the back of the LED panel there is a wide variety of connectors for connecting external devices. In addition, digital tuners DVB-T / T2, DVB-C, DVB-S / S2 and two speakers with a power of 10 W are built into the TV case. They do not have high quality sound, which can be increased by connecting an optional wireless subwoofer to the TV.

Good to know! The use of a curved display design on TVs is appropriate on diagonals of at least 55”. On smaller screens, concavity artifacts (geometric image distortion and contrast loss) will be more pronounced when leaving the comfort zone, which is located near the central axis.

Additional features tv Sony KD-55SD8505:
  • Advanced Contrast Enhancer
  • 24p True Cinema Technology
  • Energy Saving Modes
  • Clear Phase technology compensates for peaks or dips in the original frequency range
Good to know:

Advanced Contrast Enhancer
The Advanced Contrast Enhancer optimizes contrast in every scene by varying the backlight intensity to capture the finest levels of gradation. This allows us to see deeper blacks, even in dimly lit scenes.

24p True Cinema
This mode allows you to watch movies as they were conceived by the director himself — on a large screen with a frequency of 24 frames per second. Until quite recently, the movies we watched at home played faster than in theaters. Because a movie that is shown on TV or sold on DVD needs to be adjusted to fit the PAL format. The difference is that movies are shot at 24 frames per second, while television standard is 25 frames per second.
