One of Sony's 2020 flagship TVs differs only in small things from direct heirs, like the XR-65A80J, but at the same time it costs significantly less than them.

cool equipment

Equipment Sony KD-65A8 fully corresponds to the flagship status. Visually, the model stands out with thin bezels around the 65-inch screen and a high-quality metal finish. The “hardware” is represented by a powerful X1 Ultimate processor and a decent speaker system with four 30 W speakers (including two subwoofers).

The model is running Android TV. The platform is fast and stable, the interface is clear, the choice of applications for installation is the largest among all competitive Smart TVs. Pleasant additions to the shell include AirPlay 2 and Chromecast functions, respectively, for broadcasting content from Apple and Android devices. For ease of interaction, a practical Bluetooth remote control with a microphone and the ability to communicate with Amazon and Google voice assistants is proposed.

The OLED matrix makes this 4K TV the ultimate in versatility. Movie buffs can expect infinite contrast and deep blacks. The processor scales low-resolution content well, which is useful when watching cable TV or sports. Viewing angles are also at a height, which means that to enjoy the picture it is not necessary to be directly in front of the screen.

HDR video (Dolby Vision supported) looks great with a wide colour gamut and decent peak brightness. The latter, together with a high-quality anti-reflective coating, will cope with reflections in a brightly lit room. In addition, users do not have to adjust the existing presets, because the factory calibration is characterized by accurate colour reproduction.

Smooth picture and minimal delays

Fans of video games will love the 120Hz refresh rate: moving objects on the screen are not subject to smearing and blurring. Plus, the game mode provides a low input lag of 10.3 ms.

An HDMI 2.1 port is also announced, but it is functionally limited, namely, it does not support 4K @ 120Hz video streaming, VRR (adaptive frame synchronization) and ALLM (automatic switch to Game Mode when a console is connected) functions. This can be critical only for the most demanding gamers. And for everyone else, the Sony KD-65A8 is almost the main contender for the title of the best Android TV.
