A relatively inexpensive 2.5″ form factor external HDD from the 2018 Toshiba Canvio range of affordable mobile hard drives, consisting of four models with capacities from 500 GB to 4 TB. It is positioned as a product of the basic price category, focused on solving the problems of backup, transfer and long-term storage of user data. The nominal capacity of the device (1 TB) is sufficient to store numerous office documents, files of various working projects, multimedia content and backups of individual folders, partitions (including system ones) or databases.
It features a practical and stylish matte exterior design, modest overall dimensions and low power consumption, allowing you to easily connect to mobile computers. The Toshiba Canvio Basics New 2.5″ HDTB410EK3AA HDD drive is connected to workstations, personal computers, monoblocks and nettops using the USB 3.2 Gen1 interface. The bandwidth of such a connection is 5 Gbps, which is more than enough for the rapid transfer of user data. An important advantage of this interface is its 100% backward compatibility with the previous USB 2.0 standard. For compatibility with Windows, the drive is formatted with the NTFS file system.
Always clarify the specifications and configuration of the product with the online store manager before purchasing.

A very decent external hard drive, as there have been no complaints in over a year of use. I use it to store work projects, mainly videos and some photos. The average file size is 300-500 MB. With such volumes, the write speed is 120-130 MB/s. This suits me perfectly. I haven't dropped it, so I can't comment on its drop reliability. However, it has been turned on 819 times and had a ton of files uploaded. For me, reliability is the most important thing. The hard drive itself is quite compact and doesn't overheat (based on statistics, it hasn't exceeded 44 degrees, which I consider an excellent result). The speed depends on file size. Photos of 15-30 MB are written at 25-45 MB/s, larger files up to 157 MB/s, but on average, as I mentioned above, it's around 130 MB/s. Perfect for work or personal archive. Relatively fast. Reliable. No speed issues, stable. Compact. Doesn't overheat. I suppose I would like a faster connector, but that would be more expensive. |
A month later, there were strange recording issues and a very loud operating noise (a soft crunch). I tested it myself and saw (screenshot 1) the recording speed drop to ZERO after 1.2TB (that's how much data I had on it at the time of the first glitches). The Victoria program showed an even more alarming situation (screenshot 2) - a bunch of sectors with a response time of 3 seconds!!! with a normal of 25-100ms, and this after one month of use. I contacted the service center - and they sent me a statement that they tested it and everything was okay, the hard drive meets the normal parameters. That's how 'normal' hard drives from Toshiba are - defects appeared after a month (or maybe immediately), but it's normal for them. Either due to the chip crisis, service centers were given a "manual" to only replace dead ones, while those that work somewhat are marked as normal. Don't buy Toshiba hard drives - save your nerves and money. Price-volume ratio reliability, service |
