Fortunately, I don't have the habit of storing all data in one place. Apart from a few unimportant details, everything was saved. Now I'm sitting here pondering what to do next. Even if they restore this drive for me at the service center or give me a new one instead, I no longer trust such a drive :( I'll be getting one from another company. But first, I'll scour the internet to find out about such issues. Large capacity in a relatively small case. Flash drives are more convenient, but I haven't seen any 2-terabyte models for sale yet. With this, you can make backups and bring tons of movies from friends. It's well-assembled, with a beautiful design. The short cable is convenient for a laptop, with no cable coil on the table. It doesn't make noise or heat up. It supports USB 3.0. You can't do without it with such capacities... It would seem like a disc with all positives, just grab and enjoy. But no... After three weeks of use, it just died. There were no prior reasons for this. It simply wouldn't power on one day and that's it :( Not recognized by any system. I think I overpaid a bit. But this is one of those cases where you don't regret the expense. Everything works and works perfectly. And what could be more important? I've already transferred a huge amount of information with it. Dropped it once, luckily from a low height. Even if it breaks, I would look for exactly the same one. Compact and very aesthetically pleasing device. It operates quickly and quietly. There's plenty of space, and even with prolonged use, it doesn't heat up. I've only read good things about this model, and I couldn't find any mention of breakdowns online. Overall, I trust this company, I've used its products all my life and have never encountered any problems. Honestly, the price tag is way too high. I do understand it's a big brand, but this is just over the top. The cord in the set is too short, I had to buy an extension separately. The software included is just terrible. And it's only a one-month trial. It would have been better not to include anything at all than this nonsense. A normal device. I bought it specifically to connect to the TV and watch movies and series in 4K resolution. Everything is fine with this, it even processes large movies of 80-100GB and displays them without delays or freezes. I've had it for four years now. It's quite quiet compared to the drives in my PC. What I didn't like is the rather short cable, it could be at least 10 cm longer. Although that's not a big deal, I'm actually thinking it would be nice to buy a special Type-C cable, maybe data transfer will be even faster... or maybe not, but I want to try. The read/write speed is excellent, sufficient for recording large volumes of files. Will I buy one like this if mine dies? Probably not. Why would I, if I can get an SSD. A workhorse that won't let you down
Elements Portable from WD gives the impression of a strong workhorse that is not trained in any tricks, but knows its job very well and will not let you down at the right time. Some notable advantages include almost silent operation, which makes it easy to use both in the office and at home.
Durable plastic housing
The drive body is made of strong plastic, in which the front side is matte with a small edging, and the back is rougher, so it does not slip on the table surface or in your hands. Overall, the disc looks minimalistic and restrained. Inside the case there is a 4 TB HDD of WD's own production with a rotation speed of 5400 rpm, 8 MB of cache and decent read and write speeds. In the Crystaldiskmark test, the drive achieved the same results of 108 MB/s for both read and write.
Convenient software for archiving and protecting data
Among the small bonuses, it is worth highlighting the Auto Local & Cloud Backup utility, which allows you to set up data backup, including making a copy to the Dropbox cloud service. And the WD Security app allows you to use hardware encryption to protect data on the drive or simply “password-protect” it. As they say, there is no such thing as too much precaution.
