File transfer speed on USB 3.0 So far, no cons have been found. |
The disk arrived in early June. It comes with a USB B - micro USB cable (with additional power supply on micro USB, i.e., no power adapter needed), some paperwork, and the disk itself. Capacity - 3.63 TB. CrystalDiskMark 7 generally shows speeds of about 150 MB/s. In reality, series and games copy to it at speeds of about 50 MB/s, which I consider acceptable. After running Victoria, no bad blocks were found. When connected via USB 3.0, you can watch high-bitrate series without problems (which is generally typical). You can work with portable applications. I did not attempt to install games. Compactness. Terrible packaging. So far there are no other drawbacks. |
WD 2.5" USB3.2 Gen 1 My Passport 2TB Blue Hard Drive (WDBYVG0020BBL-WESN). It has been working successfully for 3 years – as a "constant working drive" (frequent reading and writing of small and large files of photos, etc.), and so on all day, 5 days a week. The write speed of a 1.6GB file from the SSD computer to this HDD via the USB 3.2 Gen 1 port is up to 82MB/s for me. It heats minimally. It works almost silently. An inspection shows that there are no damaged sectors, everything is fine. The external case is plastic. It has a neat appearance. It has 2 sides of different colors: light blue and dark gray – and I flip it to the one I need. I place a fabric for cushioning and protection against scratches. I chose WD because I trust this manufacturer. I bought it at MOYO. Completely satisfied! Compact, lightweight. Reliable. Quiet. Affordable. Fast enough for me (photo work). Works as a "constant work disk" all day, and has been working like this for 3 years. No protection against impacts and scratches. No case or bag for safe daily storage and transportation. |

As part of the Passport line, Western Digital produces interesting external drives, which one would like to call "designer". The hallmark of these HDDs has become a front panel divided in two, on which one half is made even and smooth, and the other is an angular corrugated pattern. Only if the My Passport models have a watershed running horizontally, then the Passport Portable has a dividing line running diagonally. Also, both models are united by a wealth of colours: in addition to the usual black colour, the drive can be purchased in orange, red and blue cases.
Device for "mods"
Otherwise, WD Passport Portable confirms the status of the device for "mods". This is one of the lightest, thinnest and most compact 2GB external hard drives on the market. Its weight is only 120 grams, such a crumb will not weigh down a bag or backpack. The soft-touch coating does not collect fingerprints, so the drive always looks like it was just taken out of the box. However, it is not burdened with functions like backup buttons, like the Transcend StoreJet 25M3, or automatic shutdown, like the Verbatim Store n Go.
WD Discovery proprietary software
All additional functionality includes the proprietary WD Discovery software package, which can be downloaded from the official website. And then you can already take a walk: turn on automatic backup, set up hardware encryption of data hidden on the disk, scan the disk for operability, or even tie several cloud storages to WD Passport Portable, combining them into one virtual drive. However, it is not necessary to do this, you can simply use it as a beautiful and extremely capacious flash drive.

The disk capacity is 1.81TB, and it came with utilities from WD. When I needed to transfer files from another laptop (file size ~75GB), the initial speed was 30-40MB/s, later there were drops to 15-20MB/s (THIS IS AT USB 2.0 SPEED!). There is a nuance when moving a single file with the initial speed, but when selecting a large number of other files, it gradually decreases to the minimum speed. Speaking of USB 3.0 performance, the speed will be much higher, about three times as much. The disk itself is quiet and inaudible during operation.
