Computers with Apple M2/M2 Pro
Apple M2 / M2 Pro
— the second edition of Apple's M-series chips, released in early summer 2022.M2 chips are manufactured using an updated 5 nm process technology and contain a quarter more transistors than in the M1 generation of Apple CPUs. Architecturally, their chips block consists of four high-performance and four energy-efficient cores. The graphics accelerator has a 10-core structure. The Apple M2 uses a neural engine, and the chip also adds a powerful ProRes video engine for hardware-accelerated video encoding and decoding in resolutions up to 8K. For the M2 generation, support for external 6K displays is announced.
The M2 Pro SoC aims to scale the M2 architecture. It consists of approximately 40 billion transistors and is built using a 5-nanometer process technology. The system has a 10 or 12-core CPU, up to 19 graphics cores, 16 or 32 GB of unified memory, which is used as RAM and video memory. The graphics performance of the M2 Pro ensures fast image processing and video rendering. Chips from this line are found in Apple Mac mini computers.
