Turntables with built-in phono stage
— the phono stage is an electronic unit that amplifies the audio signal from the pickup and corrects its frequency characteristics. For technical reasons, it is impossible to record sound in its original frequency response on a record, because of this, when playing vinyl, a phono stage is required.
Players with this feature can be directly connected to power amplifiers (and some of them even have their own amplifiers and built-in acoustics, see the relevant paragraph). At the same time, such models may also provide the possibility of working with external phono stages — they are considered more advanced than internal ones.
