— r-UIM cards are used in CDMA (EV-DO) networks in the same way as SIM cards (see the relevant paragraph) are used in GSM and UMTS networks — for user identification. However, in addition to working with plug-in cards, identification in CDMA can also be carried out by making the appropriate settings in the modem's firmware. On the one hand, the use of R-UIM is more convenient for the user — no special skills and equipment are required to change the card, while flashing requires the participation of a specialist. On the other hand, for a number of reasons, many CDMA operators do not release their own R-UIM cards at all and work only with firmware updates. Therefore, before choosing a modem with this feature, it is worth clarifying whether it is required at all.
