Its necessity is due to the fact that with each charge, part of the water contained in the electrolyte “evaporates” (more precisely, decomposes into oxygen and hydrogen), and the liquid level decreases, which leads to damage to the plates. To avoid this, it is necessary to periodically top up the battery with distilled water. Most modern serviceable batteries are well suited for service approximately once a year, during scheduled maintenance.
