Calcium (Ca-Ca)

— lead plates alloyed with calcium in a proportion of no more than 0.1% of the total electrode mass. Their advantages include a long service life, increased strength, and thin plates, resulting in a low-maintenance or maintenance-free design. Ca-Ca batteries can handle increased voltage up to 14.8 V and are characterized by a low self-discharge rate. However, a deep discharge can be detrimental to these models, as the resulting calcium sulfate clogs the plate pores and is nearly insoluble in the electrolyte. A calcium battery that has been deeply discharged once can lose up to 20% of its original capacity, which cannot be restored.
