Photographic paper

— paper specially designed for printing photographs and designed for use in photo printers. It has a fairly high density, a special composition, and often an additional coating (see the relevant paragraph). All this prevents the ink from spreading and allows for very high detail, so that modern images from photo printers are often not inferior in quality to photographs printed in the traditional way (through a photo enlarger).

Note that photo paper may differ in acceptable printing technologies, so its compatibility with a particular printer should be clarified separately.
