Recall that the task of the casing is to protect the user and surrounding objects from dust, chips, sparks, etc. that occur during operation. In addition, such a device provides additional safety in the sense that it reduces the likelihood of foreign objects (including body parts of people nearby) getting into the working part of the tool. Also note that casings supplemented with nozzles for connecting vacuum cleaners are very popular nowadays. In fact, such devices are a simplified analogue of dust removal systems (see the relevant paragraph); they are not as efficient, but they weigh less, are more compact and, usually, are noticeably cheaper.

Protective covers are made mainly either for specific tools, or for a line of the same type of tools from one manufacturer — for example, grinders with a certain disk diameter.
