Corrosion protection

— an additional coating that protects the ax blade from corrosion. Such a coating is especially useful in light of the fact that the grades of steel used in axes are most often not stainless. It gives the blade its characteristic black colour. At the same time, there is no coating on the cutting edge — rust can be easily removed from it when sharpening or editing.

The presence of corrosion protection is highly desirable if the ax is to be stored or operated in conditions of high humidity.
