Water resistance 8 means that the device can be submerged under water to a depth of more than 1 m, stay there for more than 30 minutes and, usually, allows use directly under water (for example, pressing buttons). Specific restrictions on depth, dive time and underwater functionality may be different, they need to be specified separately. However, if you plan to dive to the depths or scuba dive, it is worth choosing a gadget suitable for this activity among models with water protection 8. However it is worth considering that not every such device normally tolerates strong jets of water; so the possibility of using it when surfing, jumping into the water, riding a jet ski, etc. also will be wise to find out separately.

With regard to dust resistance, the lack of certification in this case does not mean the lack of protection. Rather, on the contrary: a body with water protection 8, by definition, must be practically sealed, and if water cannot get inside, then this is almost unrealistic for dust. So such bodies are most often also completely dustproof (which actually corresponds to the 6th, highest level of dust protection), although there are also just dustproof ones (allowing the penetration of a small amount of dust that does not affect the operation of the gadget).
