Torches with multiple brightness modes

 

— this feature means that the flashlight has several fixed brightness levels. Thus, the mode of operation of such a device can be adjusted depending on the situation. For example, when you are near a group of people, the brightness can be reduced so as not to blind others, and when you move away, you can increase it to the maximum, providing the greatest range and/or lighting efficiency. However, note that the specific number of modes in different models can be different: the more there are, the wider the adjustment possibilities, but the more expensive, usually, the flashlight itself. Specific details should be clarified for each model separately; we only note that additional modes (see "Functions and Capabilities") are not taken into account in this case — we are talking exclusively about constant light at different brightness levels.

In addition to several brightness modes, modern flashlights can also provide smooth adjustment (see the relevant paragraph) — and it provides more customization options, since the choice is not limited to strictly defined modes. On the other hand, such regulators are more complicated and more expensive than stepped ones; and for some users, purely subjectively, it is more convenient to choose one of the clearly defined modes, rather than fiddling with a smooth change in power.
