Coaxial S/PDIF

— a type of digital audio interface, S/PDIF, uses an electrical coaxial cable with RCA connectors ("RCA jacks"). Unlike optical cables, this type of cable is somewhat susceptible to electromagnetic interference but is more reliable and does not require special handling care. The bandwidth of the connection is sufficient to transmit multichannel audio up to 7.1. Note that despite identical connectors, the coaxial digital interface is not compatible with analog RCA; even for S/PDIF, it is recommended to use specialized cables.
