Model overview based on user reviews
The Seagate BarraCuda Compute hard drive series offers a range of capacities and is widely available, making it a popular choice for budget-conscious consumers. Many users appreciate its affordability and decent speed, especially for models like the ST2000DM006 and ST2000DM008, which are noted for their quiet operation and good performance. However, there are significant concerns regarding the reliability of certain models, particularly the ST1000DM010, which has received numerous complaints about noise, vibration, and early failure. Some users report issues like crackling sounds, overheating, and spontaneous shutdowns, leading to a lack of confidence in the product's longevity. While some users have had positive experiences with no issues over several years, others recommend considering alternative brands or investing in SSDs for better reliability. Overall, while the Seagate BarraCuda Compute series offers good value for money, potential buyers should be aware of the mixed reviews regarding its durability and performance.

I like it. There was no loss of information.

Bought this drive over a year ago. All sectors are intact, and it doesn't heat beyond 33 degrees.
A good hard drive in terms of price and quality ratio. If you're careful and don't hit the hard drive against the case during installation, it will work great! The response time is good.
There can be spindle knocking. But it's rare. So, everything's OK.

I do not recommend purchasing this HDD.

It started cracking after half a year of operation. It is worth special mention that the system is located on an SSD, and the hard drive is used as a file dump. However, an irritating crackling sound appeared that was impossible to get rid of.

In a new guise

Seagate's updated lineup of 3.5-inch consumer internal hard drives consists of four series: BarraCuda, FireCuda, IronWolf and SkyHawk. The first two series are designed for desktop PCs, while the second and third series are optimized for network storage and video surveillance systems. For a low-cost gaming PC, the terabyte of the younger BarraCuda series is best suited.

Speed indicators

The Seagate BarraCuda spins at 7200 rpm, which provides an average linear read and write speed of 180 MB / s. Small files scattered over the entire surface of the disk are processed much more slowly. This drawback is solved only in the FireCuda series (formerly called Momentus XT), equipped with a fast 8 GB SSD cache.

When volume is more important than speed

However, for games, the capacity of the hard drive is much more important than its speed. Modern games, at times, weigh 50-70 GB each (for example, GTA V and Battlefield 4 with all add-ons). And for the price of Seagate BarraCuda for 1 TB, you can’t even buy a 120-gigabyte SSD now, so the solution, in fact, has no alternative.
