A laptop with a pedigree
Asus was one of the first to decide to separate the line of gaming laptops into a hotel brand. It's called the Republic of Gamers (or just ROG) and is strongly associated with uncompromising gaming solutions and the corresponding price tags.
Max FPS
The ROG GL753VE configuration includes an Intel Core i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake processor (clocked at 2.8 – 3.8 GHz), an improved NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti video chip, a bunch of HDD and SSD drives with a total memory capacity of 1128 GB and increased to 16 GB stock DDR4 RAM.
This is one of the most performant bundles of iron in this price segment. 16 GB of RAM provide an excellent start for the future, an SSD drive noticeably speeds up system loading, a capacious HDD allows you to store an impressive collection of games, and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card gives an increase of 10 – 15% compared to the base video chips of the 1050 family.
17" IPS display
The pumped filling is not the only thing due to which the Asus ROG GL753VE stands out from the competition. It has a screen enlarged to 17" with a standard FullHD resolution for a gaming laptop. Brightness levels of 340 cd/m2 with a 36ms response time also outperform most gaming laptops under $1,000. In general, the impressions from using the display are purely positive.
No heat!
The ROG GL753VE handles heat well. A large case, as well as a generally effective cooling system in the complex, ensure the successful removal of heat to the outside. Even under intense synthetic loads, the hottest point of the GL753VE chassis only reached 36°C. And all this does not affect the volume of the cooling system in any way: at maximum volume, it is more like a rustling, rather than a monotonous hum, and is not particularly distracting during work or gameplay.
Battery
As they say, if you arrive somewhere, you must leave somewhere. The reverse side of the performant hardware and the increased diagonal of the screen is a weak margin of battery life. Even with moderate loads, the laptop is not able to last longer than 4 hours. Well, at maximum load in heavy games, do not wait more than an hour.

I do web programming, specifically I'm a JavaScript developer. I don't have my own housing yet, so I live in a rental. Moving happens more often than I'd like. Dragging a full PC in such a situation isn't very convenient, so I use a laptop. Before, I had a Dell, but because of my evening gaming sessions, the poor thing only lasted about a year longer than its warranty. So I decided to get a proper gaming laptop with good cooling for home use. The screen is quite large (17.3 inches) and uses an IPS matrix. It has good color reproduction and is pleasant to look at even from sharp angles. The overall performance is impressive in both work tasks and gaming. The full-fledged quad-core processor with HT, specifically the Core i7-7700HQ, is powerful. It operates at a clock speed of up to 3.8 GHz and offers desktop-like performance. It has 16 gigabytes of memory, which is sufficient for both virtualization (for work) and evening tank battles (I've been playing WoT for three years). A special thanks to the manufacturer for the correct approach to the storage subsystem: a fast system SSD for the system (plus my virtual machines) and a regular terabyte hard drive for file storage. One of the strongest points of the machine is the discrete gaming graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. It's not a top-end model (for WoT, top graphics aren't necessary), but it generates significantly less heat. The laptop is also equipped with all necessary ports, including the currently less useful but promising USB 3.1 Type C. I am pleased with the high-speed WIFI standard 802.11ac. The cooling of the laptop under load is noisy. Though, of course, it would be strange to think it could be otherwise. )) Worse is that during prolonged multi-threaded loads (for example, video encoding in H.265), the processor can heat up to throttling temperatures, with all the ensuing consequences. (( Fortunately, this problem didn't occur in games. |
