Good quality, WIFI and Bluetooth, Ethernet 2.5Gig, good cooling of the power elements The sound card is weak, the video card is very close to the CPU socket, and PCIe 5.0 is missing. |
When I decided to upgrade my PC, I already knew that the motherboard would be from ASUS. I may not trust their monitors, mice, keyboards, criticize them for greed and some inadequate pricing policy in their ROG STRIX line, but one thing they do know how to make is motherboards. I took the board for the 12600KF, maybe not the best choice, maybe I should have taken something with a higher number of power phases, but whatever they say, the build works. It has been running for almost a year now with no problems, even stress tests pass without issues. I liked the massive VRM heatsinks, which really work and help dissipate heat from the 150W processor. There are two slots for M.2 drives. I would have liked a PCI 5.0 port, but I guess I’m being greedy for that price. I liked that the board has a built-in Wifi|Bluetooth antenna, which is just a lifesaver for me. The signals do not conflict, even though I use several devices connected wirelessly, nothing drops. The sound card is nothing special, it produces pleasant sound, but it can't compare to a real DAC. It supports DDR5 6000 RAM, I see no point in getting DDR4 in 2024/25. Holds a quite hot processor 12600KF Massive VRM heatsinks Two slots for m.2 pci-e 4.0 drives I would like more power phases so that the VRM doesn't heat up as much. Also, a 5.0 slot for the graphics card. |

It has Wi-Fi, which is convenient, so there's no need to run a cable or buy a separate card. The DDR5 6000 memory worked without problems, and the system started on the first try. There are enough ports and slots for a standard build: a graphics card, a few PCIe SSDs, SATAIII, a few fans — all without surprises (yes, I know, that word triggers you — here it’s relevant). You can even set up some lighting.
A few nuances. With a massive tower in the first slot, the graphics card will be almost touching; if the tower has a 140mm fan, it won't fit. Everything's fine with a 120mm or AIO. I wish the VRM was more powerful.
For i7 or i9, I wouldn't recommend it: for such processors, it's better to get something higher-class with a more serious component base. But for its niche, the board is decent — no more, no less.
