![]() |
Inexpensive 2021 microATX motherboard with AMD AM4 socket and AMD B450 chipset. It is the second (improved) version of the popular Asus PRIME B450M-K board, which differs from it by an increased maximum memory capacity (up to 64 GB high-frequency DDR4, up to 4400 MHz, A-XMP support) and support for the popular HDMI 2.0b digital output interface. It has a modest overall dimensions and convenient layout.
Easily fits into compact microATX Minitower cases. Supports an impressive range of AMD Ryzen 1000/2000/3000/5000 (Summit Ridge, Pinnacle Ridge, Matisse, Vermeer) processors, Ryzen 2000G/3000G/4000G/5000G APUs (Raven Ridge, Picasso, Renoir or Cezanne with integrated Vega GPU) and CPU Athlon (Raven Ridge). It is positioned as a 2021 entry-level product aimed at entry-level or mid-range home and office configurations. The Asus PRIME B450M-K II motherboard is equipped with a six-phase processor power subsystem, made on the basis of a high-quality element base. To create a high-speed storage subsystem, there is an M.2 port (PCI-E Gen3 x4) and 6 standard SATA3 connectors. Realtek RTL8111H GbE LAN controller handles heavy network traffic with low latency.

Between generations
ASUS Prime B450M-K II is an updated version of one of the most affordable motherboards with the AM4 socket. There are practically no changes in the design, but the volume of the BIOS chip has been increased to ensure compatibility with all Ryzen processors, from the 1000th to the 5000th series, without the need for a firmware update. The power supply system is designed according to the 4 + 2 phase scheme: four are responsible for the processor cores, and two are for the integrated graphics. There are no radiators on the VRM.
Overcompensation
The board has only two RAM slots, but supports frequencies over 4000 MHz and a total capacity of up to 64 GB. The M.2 NVMe SSD and x16 video card slots operate on the third generation of PCI-Express, due to the B450 chipset. However, support for new PCIe 4.0 video cards is partially compensated by Resizable BAR technology, which helps use video memory more efficiently.
Digital or analog
There are three video outputs for connecting monitors: digital HDMI and DVI, as well as analog VGA. The only thing missing for complete versatility is DisplayPort. If necessary, the integrated video core can be overclocked by several hundred megahertz via the Precision Boost Overdrive menu. But what can really be considered a drawback of the Prime B450M-K II is only one connector for a case fan.
