The folding design of the headphones is similar to that used in the older model of the ATH-M50x line. It consists of a metal headband with a soft finish and durable plastic cups with large and comfortable ear cushions that provide reliable passive noise isolation. Suitable for long-term studio work. They have an increased impedance (45 ohms) and are designed for use with professional equipment, a high-quality sound card, or a stationary Hi-Fi player. They are equipped with a long 3-metre cable with a 3-pin mini-Jack 3.5mm connector and an adapter for 3-pin Jack 6.35mm.

The name Audio-Technica means the standard of high-quality sound. Everything that is produced under this brand can be safely bought, unless, of course, the price is scary. The ATH-M40x headphones are no exception.

Design

Ergonomics of the model did a great job, and even a little too smart. The soft headband is adjustable, the bowls fold, turn in all planes, which you get used to at once. The cable is twisted, detachable, long enough (3 m), plus an additional straight cable is included.

The plastic is matte, pleasant to the touch, the ear cushions are dense, elastic, high quality leatherette. When the headphones are fully folded, they become half the size and fit comfortably in the fabric case, which is also included.

Sound

The frequency range of 15 – 24000 Hz fully reveals all the possibilities of sound. The frequency response is even, without bursts, the bass is accentuated, not deaf, does not stick out and does not blur the overall mix. Highs and mids are heard clearly. The model will perfectly cope with the monitoring of studio tracks during mixing. Those "jambs" that you will not hear from external monitors, the ATH-M40x will definitely not let you miss.

Audio-Technica ATH-M40x is an ergonomic semi-professional headphone model in the price range from 120 to 160 USD. A high-quality, although not cheap, addition to studio equipment.
