"A large zoom range of approximately 11x covers everything from wide-angle to telephoto. Canon's new dust- and water-resistant 'white' lens will allow professional photographers shooting with EOS cameras to reduce the frequency of replacement and the number of lenses they have to carry with myself.
Image stabilization
The lens incorporates Canon's renowned Image Stabilization (IS) technology, allowing approximately three stops of faster shutter speed without any noticeable increase in image blur when shooting static subjects or panoramas. This greatly expands the range of situations in which you can shoot handheld, without the need to carry a tripod. If you continue to move the camera in one direction for a certain amount of time, the Image Stabilizer in Mode 2 automatically detects that it is purposeful panning and stops correcting in that direction to prevent stray vibrations. To avoid tripod shooting errors, the system automatically detects the absence of movement/vibration.
Fast autofocus
A ring-type ultrasonic focus motor (USM) located inside the lens converts ultrasonic energy into rotational force for high-speed, high-precision, ultra-efficient and near-silent autofocusing. At the same time, the inertialess motor provides a fast and accurate response. The lens is equipped with an always-on manual focus system, which allows you to instantly switch to manual mode without the risk of damaging the autofocus mechanism. The minimum focus distance across the entire zoom range is only 0.7 m.
Perfect for digital photography
The shape and coating of the lens elements have been improved to suppress ghosting and flare in the image. Therefore, it is perfect for digital cameras, which are more sensitive to light reflection from the image sensor than film cameras. When using this lens on digital cameras with an APS-C sized sensor, such as the EOS 10D, you can take advantage of the extra zoom as the focal length range (35mm film equivalent) is 45-480mm.
High optical precision – high image quality
The lens design of 22 elements in 16 groups provides high resolution over the entire image area at any focal length. Like all other EF lenses, the new model is equipped with an electromagnetic diaphragm (EMD) that operates quickly, silently and very accurately. Thanks to the round aperture, the aperture (fully open or closed by 1-2 stops) can create an attractive background blur effect. Three extra-low dispersion (UD) glass elements help to eliminate residual chromatic aberrations that inevitably occur in lower class long lenses, while aspherical elements help correct other aberrations that appear when zooming. The result is the unrivaled clarity and sharpness that professional L-series lenses are renowned for.
Zoom adjustment
The zoom adjustment mechanism allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the zoom system to suit your preference. In addition, the zoom can be fixed at any focal length.
Weather protection
As befits an L-series lens, the EF 28-300mm f/3.5–5.6L IS USM features a rugged, dust- and water-resistant design. It is designed for professionals who sometimes have to shoot in difficult weather conditions, with sharp fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
Use with EOS cameras
The lens has been carefully designed to match the latest EOS cameras, to take full advantage of its fast performance.
In harmony with the environment
In full compliance with Canon's high environmental standards, all optical elements of the lens are made of lead-free glass."
