Model overview based on user reviews
The Crucial BX500 SSD series offers a range of capacities from 120GB to 4TB, making it versatile for various storage needs. Users appreciate its performance, especially in speeding up older PCs, and its affordability compared to other SSDs on the market. The SSD is praised for its ease of installation and low operating temperatures. However, some users have reported issues with speed drop-offs when the drive is more than half full, particularly due to the lack of a cache. Despite these concerns, many find it a great value for money, especially for those who need a reliable SSD for basic tasks. The build quality is noted as average, with some mentioning a plastic case that feels less sturdy. Overall, the Crucial BX500 is recommended for budget-conscious buyers looking for a decent performance boost, although it may not be suitable for heavy data transfer tasks.

I've been using mine for the second year on a Core 2 Duo E8200, DDR2 8GB 1066. It has Win10 installed, everything is great, and the difference compared to an HDD is huge, it feels like I bought a new PC. Although the motherboard only has SATA 2. The speed in tests shows 230 Mbit.

The best for your money)))

If you are assembling a homeless PC, then in principle it’s okay to download Windows and a couple of games for your own money. But you can live until you find the money for an expensive SSD drive.
Easy to install (I assembled the PC for the first time). They didn't lie, the memory doesn't heat up. For my money it’s the best I’ve seen and it didn’t die as usual with others.

Bestseller

For the past year and a half, the Crucial BX500 has consistently been in the top 5 best-selling SSD drives in 90% of all online stores. Thanks here it is worth saying a combination of high speed, reliability and low price — it is actually sold at the price of Chinese SSDs from little-known brands. Only unlike them, Crucial is a subsidiary of Micron, so it values its reputation and takes quality control seriously. However this applies more to the 120 and 240 GB options. For some reason, the price of 480 GB turns out to be slightly higher, and, accordingly, there are more competitors.

Trigger to the floor

According to the manufacturer, the main emphasis in the production of the BX500 was placed on speed. So, according to the passport, the “straightforward” write and read speed is not at all the budgetary 500 and 540 MB / s. What is even cooler, the real indicators were not only not lower, but also slightly higher than the passport ones. For example, the popular benchmark Crystal Disk Info shows 499 MB / s for linear writes and all 560 MB / s for reading files.

No Buffer RAM

However, it's too early to get excited. The engineers of the American company had to slightly cut off the fat for the sake of a tasty price tag, and they sacrificed the low-cost single-core controller SM2258XT, which is devoid of buffer RAM. Therefore, streaming recording and, in general, active write operations are not the strong point of this model. When copying numerous files of different sizes, the recording speed drops quite quickly and then fluctuates between 125 – 366 Mb / s. If you don’t have the task of driving 30-40 GB back and forth every day, then you can safely take it.
