Gigabyte does not yet have much experience in the production of gaming laptops, so it is updating at triple speed, trying to find the optimal hardware and chassis with a cooling system in order to keep up with the competition. So, at the end of 2022, the company announced a global update of G5 laptops with a modified chassis, improved display and next-generation video cards. Compared to its predecessors, the new product now has a non-removable battery, the touchpad has lost physical buttons, the air intakes are located symmetrically, and the keyboard has full RGB backlighting.

However, the greatest interest in the Gigabyte G5 KF is caused by the GeForce RTX 4060 video card, installed instead of the RTX 4050, which is more usual for this price segment. Interestingly, both the desktop and mobile RTX 4060 are based on the same AD107 GPU, have 3072 CUDA cores, 128-bit memory bus and 8 GB of video memory. But the situation with her turned out to be ambiguous. On the one hand, Gigabyte reduced the power consumption limit from 115 to 75 W, almost equalizing its performance with the younger RTX 4050 Mobile. On the other hand, the cost and performance of the Gigabyte G5 KF is on par with competitors based on the RTX 4050. Working in conjunction with a Core i5 12500H processor and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, the video accelerator allows you to comfortably play Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur's Gate 3, A Plague Tale : Requiem or Diablo 4 with average 60 – 90 fps with high graphics settings and Full HD resolution. Therefore, we go further and better scold the rather noisy and far from the most efficient cooling system.

Not without saving

Considering that the Gigabyte G5 KF belongs to the entry level, there are some savings here. For example, the plastic case in reality does not cause any delight, and the display has slightly decreased color rendition compared to the previous generation. Otherwise, the laptop has the standard set for an affordable gaming laptop in 2023: a gigabit LAN controller, a fairly comfortable backlit keyboard, a network module with Wi-Fi 6E, DTS X Ultra sound and a 144 Hz screen. It is also important to note the possibility of replacing the RAM yourself and installing a second SSD drive. Sorry, there is no fast charging. But there is a card reader and an additional miniDisplayPort in addition to the main HDMI.
