Line HP Victus 15-fb2000

Affordable gaming laptops from the HP Victus lineup. The models reviewed in the series feature a 15.6-inch IPS screen with a standard Full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The color coverage of the display is mediocre, about 62.5% of the sRGB space. The "hardware" foundation of the laptops is led by AMD chips: Ryzen 5 8645HS or Ryzen 7 8845HS (based on the Zen 4 architecture).

These are powerful processors with multithreading support, backed by discrete NVIDIA GeForce 30XX/40XX graphics. The lower configurations of the HP Victus 15-fb2000 are limited to only 8 GB of RAM, while all others have 16 GB of DDR5-5600 standard RAM. A separate line highlights the expansion slot for an additional memory stick. Data storage is provided by an M.2 NVMe SSD with 512 GB or 1 TB. The series laptops are equipped with Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers, a built-in card reader, a full-sized island-style keyboard with backlighting, and a Num key block. The autonomous operation of the models in the lineup relies on a battery with a capacity of 70 Wh, which lasts for a couple of hours under moderate load.

The laptop is pretty good for its price range 8/10

I bought it for long-term use, assuming I would frequently transport it and often discharge and recharge it. So far, it hasn't disappointed me; the model is quite handy for work. It came out of the box with Windows 11. I installed Linux Mint on it, fearing that the manufacturer hadn't provided any Linux drivers, but it turned out that everything works perfectly. It has an integrated GPU thanks to the AMD processor, so most of the time, unless it's about gaming, it uses it, which is much more energy-efficient. When the discrete GPU is turned on, you can immediately hear it, especially during rendering or running heavy games; the fans are so loud that even a great loud speaker doesn't save the situation (so I recommend playing with headphones). The charging is quite fast, which is convenient for frequent transportation of the laptop; it charged fully for me in no more than an hour and a half from zero. It can work autonomously for about 3-5 hours, depending on the load. The keyboard backlighting satisfied me; I don't need colorful lighting, and white even helps to spoil the eyes less in complete darkness. The small memory volume as a separate issue is quite easily resolved; you can install in the free SSD slot, by the way, or you can connect a portable SSD via USB 3.2, which is the option I used, quite convenient actually because even heavy games run without a problem through USB. (Baldur's Gate III ran without issues).
Low price, the quality of the built-in speakers is very good. In my experience with laptops, this is the loudest speaker. Since this configuration has both the processor and the video card from AMD, it performs well on Linux, and all other components work well. There is a possibility to increase the RAM up to 32 GB. The presence of USB 3.2 saves the day with the small memory capacity.
If you're going to use Linux, keep in mind that while the monitor will work and display colors correctly, there might be some issues with image processing (color correction). Finding the correct monitor model was quite difficult. The manufacturer doesn't officially support this product on Linux (although this doesn't prevent it from fully functioning). Also, it's worth noting the speaker is positioned upwards, which in my opinion might lead to it gathering dust over time. The fans can get very noisy when the graphics card is under heavy load, although the graphics card doesn't run unnecessarily.
