One of the best SSDs available in 2021 with M.2 interface and 64-layer 3D TLC NAND Flash. Included in the universal consumer series Consumer, most of the products provide an optimal balance between cost, speed, reliability and additional features. As planned, Kingston can equally well play the role of a system drive, a game library or a backup disk in a workstation for processing copyright content.
It has a compact size that complies with the 2280 form factor standard. Compatible with all motherboards equipped with an M.2 port with support for 2/4-lanes PCI-E 3.0. The Kingston NV1 is based on 3D QLC NAND multi-layer flash memory, the Phison PS5013-E13-31 mid-level controller is responsible for controlling the device. The linear write speed declared by the manufacturer is 1700 MB / s, the read speed reaches 2100 MB / s, which is almost 4 times faster than SSD drives with SATA3 interface and 10-15 times faster than conventional HDD drives.
Thus, the drive provides, albeit not a record, but still quite fast loading of the operating system, browsers with a large number of cached tabs, resource-intensive professional applications and current games. The manufacturer gives a 3-year warranty, and the MTBF is 150 TB. This is quite enough for everyday home use, but may not be enough for a workstation on which tens of gigabytes of audio or video materials are rewritten daily.

Probably the most affordable SSD on the market
The review of Kingston NV1 SNVS/500G should start with trump cards. This is perhaps the most affordable SSD on the market. And among SATA-models, and among slightly more expensive and faster M.2 drives. Recall that we are not talking about some little-studied Chinese brand, but about Kingston, which has been successfully producing memory for more than 30 years. They jumped into the SSD market late and are now striving to win back positions. Therefore, when evaluating, we will dance precisely from this factor, turning a blind eye to some small flaws inherent in entry-level equipment.
Real linear reading speed in the region of 2000 – 2400 MB / s
Considering the price, it was interesting to start with NV1's innards. So, four 64-bit 3D QLC flash memory modules manufactured by Kingston itself are installed here, and the popular Phison PS5013-E13-3 controller controls this stuff. The controller is low-cost and does not support the operation of the DRAM buffer. In general, everything is expected prstenko, which is confirmed in the tests. In linear reading tests, everything went smoothly, and in some places the speedometer even exceeded the claimed 2100 MB / s, reaching 2400 MB / s. The true class of NV1 shows up in the line and random write tests. In the beginning, everything goes smoothly, and the speed is kept at the level of the passport 1700 MB / s, but very soon the lack of a full-fledged buffer begins to affect, and the speed drops to 150 – 200 MB / s. It turns out a total gap in read and write speed, due to which this SSD is not suitable for conditional photo and video processing, in which you need to quickly work simultaneously in both directions.
Not without flaws
Finally, it is important to reiterate. This is one of the cheapest SSDs on the market. At least if we talk about the volume of 500 GB. And all these shortcomings mentioned above are more relevant for mid-range models. For low-cost SSDs, the indicators are at the level, if you want to save money, then take it without hesitation. By the way, this will be a particularly good option for upgrading a laptop, since the memory module itself turned out to be quite thin and low, which makes it easy to install. And for a low-cost gaming PC, this is quite a good option, because the main operations during the game are just reading, not writing.
