A compact waterproof camera tailored for use in extreme environmental conditions. The body of the model withstands drops from a height of 1.2 m, demonstrates resistance to frost down to -10 °C, and can be submerged to a depth of 20 meters (for up to 2 hours). The Pentax WG-8 uses a BSI CMOS image sensor with a 1/2.3" optical format and a resolution of 20 MP. It features a versatile zoom lens covering the popular range of equivalent focal lengths from 28 to 140 mm.

The lens aperture is f/3.5-5.5, and around the lens are built-in LED lights for a ring flash. The model records video in up to 4K resolution at 30 fps and can be used as a webcam. For aiming, there is a convenient fixed 3-inch screen on the back panel of the body. Additional features include a built-in compass and GPS. The camera has 24 pre-installed automatic shooting modes (including several underwater modes), supported by Ricoh's signature artistic profiles.
