A compact on-camera microphone designed as a multifunctional audio solution for Sony Alpha series camcorders equipped with a Multi-Interface Shoe (MI Shoe). The device is based on an array of four electret capsules. Connection to the camera is made without cables directly through the "hot shoe", which ensures the transmission of a digital audio signal and powers the microphone from the camera's battery (Battery Assist technology).
The main feature is the ability to switch between multiple directional patterns, including cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional, and stereo. This flexibility transforms the Sony ECM-M1 microphone into a versatile tool capable of adapting to any shooting task. For professional work, there is the option to record four-channel sound, which provides extensive opportunities for post-processing. Additionally, there is a built-in low-pass filter (LPF) to combat wind noise and an attenuator for recording loud sources without distortion. Weighing only 65 grams, the microphone hardly disrupts the camera's balance.
