From the press release:
Japanese independent optics manufacturer Tamron has released the highly anticipated Tamron AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro multi-purpose lens for use with Sony Alpha cameras.
The design uses one low dispersion lens and one anomalous dispersion lens in the first group to minimize axial chromatic aberration. The presence of two hybrid aspherical lenses contributes to the compactness of the model, despite the zoom factor of 13.9x - the highest in the Tamron lens lineup. In addition, thanks to the use of multi-coated technology on the contact surfaces of the lenses, spurious images (ghosting) and glare (flare) are minimized.
