Model overview based on user reviews
WD Scorpio Blue 2.5" is a quiet, low-power 5400 RPM laptop HDD with capacities up to 1 TB and generally low heat output. Users often praise its quiet operation, compact format and adequate performance for storage or everyday laptop use. However, reliability is highly inconsistent: some drives work for 4–7 years, while others develop bad sectors or fail within months. It is also noticeably slower than modern storage, and occasional clicking or head-parking sounds may occur.

Judging by the fact that they couldn't install the same model of hard drive on my machine, the problem is with the manufacturer. Crap, what a headache! Didn't have time to feel it... Maybe it's a large volume? I saved up for a laptop because of the large disk capacity. It worked for half a day, then started "acting slow" (the laptop, not me), and later the hard drive stopped being recognized altogether. I took it to a service center—they struggled with it for 3 weeks and returned it with a different model. |
Not a bad drive for external storage; it wasn’t used directly in a laptop, so I can’t say how well it works in laptops. Used as an external drive. Very quiet, does not heat up (although it is in an enclosure and a soft case, the sensor shows 36°C when idle and 41°C during writing or reading), quite fast, SMART tests show everything is fine. Not detected yet. |
apparently, the pursuit of WD prey speed, silence worked for 3 months |
