How to choose the right SSDChoosing an SSD with the required speed and good reliability for home, work and gaming
Model overview based on user reviews
The WD Black SN850 SSD is highly regarded for its impressive speed and performance, with users noting its compliance with claimed speeds in synthetic tests. The version with a native radiator is praised for its excellent cooling capabilities. However, users have observed that when the drive is filled over 80%, the speed may drop. Despite this, the drive is considered very fast, with reading speeds reaching up to 7000 MB/s. Some users mention that it heats up to 50 degrees, which is not seen as a major drawback. Overall, the WD Black SN850 is viewed as a top-tier choice for those seeking high performance, although it may be more expensive compared to alternatives like the WD750, which could offer similar gaming performance at a lower cost.

Cons

good model, I liked it
1 September 2021
Upgraded from WD750. Didn't notice any tangible difference in games. So, if you're getting it for gaming, you better go for the 750, you'll save about 4 thousand without losing performance, which can be invested in RAM.
Compliance with the claimed speeds in synthetic. The native radiator cools the drive VERY well.
When filled over 80%, the speed drops to values lower than that of the 750.

Dear, but probably the best memory to date

Thanks to this memory, I get the highest results in performance tests with the same processors and video cards
Very fast, reading speed 7000
This is hardly a drawback, but it heats up to 50 degrees almost constantly

Dark night

The WD Black SN850 is a PCIe 4.0 SSD in-house designed and manufactured by Western Digital, which acquired SanDisk a few years earlier. It replaced the SN750, the top among PCIe 3.0 drives. Sold as a version without a radiator, and with a luminous cooler EKWB.

Triple Strike

At the heart of the SN850 is a proprietary Black G2 controller with three ARM cores, which provides the best among PCIe 4.0 SSDs with up to 1 million IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second). The external DDR4 buffer chip speeds up the processing of small files even more.

brotherly bonds

The flash memory chips are represented by 96-layer 3D TLC BiCS4, but not by Kioxia, but by WD's own. The fact is that these two companies work closely in the design of multilayer flash memory, but they are directly involved in conveyor production separately — each in its own factory.

Work and leisure

The presence of its own production lines allows WD to manually select the most successful flash memory chips from the entire batch and, thereby, provide the Black SN850 with a high linear read speed of 7000 MB / s and a linear write of 5100 MB / s. After continuously writing 10 percent of the disk capacity, the speed drops to about 1500 MB / s and the disk needs time to rest.
