The WD Black SN7100 is an update to Western Digital's signature line of NVMe drives, combining high speed, proprietary hardware architecture, and an energy-efficient design. This model is positioned as an enhanced alternative to the popular SN770 drive, offering higher speed performance and more advanced flash memory. The drive is equipped with a modern PCIe 4.0 interface, achieving peak speeds of up to 7250 MB/s read and 6900 MB/s write.
Unlike many competitors, the SN7100 features Western Digital's proprietary WD A101-000172-A1 controller, with improved energy efficiency. At the core is a 218-layer flash memory from Kioxia, with a dense and robust memory module layout. With a stated endurance of 600 TBW and a mean time to failure of 1.77 million hours, this drive is targeted not only at consumer but also at semi-professional scenarios, including work on large multimedia projects, gaming sessions, and intensive multitasking.
Random performance is equally impressive: up to 1.4 million IOPS write and up to 1 million IOPS read, which makes the SN7100 stand out compared to most solutions with QLC memory. These characteristics make it suitable for systems where fast handling of small files is crucial — for example, when launching texture-heavy games or processing caches in work applications. Maybe someone is interested in how it performs on PCIe 3.0 with AMD. Fast reliable drive. In the 2TB version, only 1 memory chip. Thin board - element layout on one side of the drive. Modern controller with good memory. High speeds and impressive operating lifespan.
