MC4 Cables - car cigarette lighter plug

MC4 – into the cigarette lighter

— adapter cable that connects a solar panel with MC4 connectors and a 12V car socket via a cigarette lighter plug to supportively recharge the starter battery while parked. Important safety note: the socket is designed for consumers, not for direct "raw" current from the panel, so the correct setup is panel → solar controller (MPPT/PWM) → socket/battery; direct connection is only permissible with small panels with an integrated regulator and diode, otherwise, overheating or overvoltage is possible. Compatibility is affected not by the "plug" but by the limits: current is limited by the socket fuse (usually 8–10 A), MC4 polarity must match, and many cars disable the socket when the engine is off, so charging won't occur. Compared to MC4 – XT60, which directs the panel straight to the input of a portable station, MC4 – "cigarette lighter" is suitable specifically for supporting a 12-volt battery. Example: camper or boat, where a panel of 50–100 W through a controller and MC4 cable → cigarette lighter maintains battery charge during idle periods.
